For over half a century, LP has crafted classic percussion instruments that are a blend of tradition and innovation. Hundreds of patented improvements and new designs for musical instruments meet the exacting standards of professional musicians around the world.
There is nothing like the sound and precision of an Afuche/Cabasa. Based on the traditional African and Latin versions of the instrument, LP’s metal Afuche/Cabasa was the first of its kind. It was developed and patented over 40 years ago, and changed the sound of Latin Jazz before finding its way into music all over the world. Today it is one of the most popular hand percussion instruments ever created, and is considered an essential in the percussionist’s toolbag. Latin Percussion offers a variety of sizes and styles of metal Afuche/Cabasas as well as a traditional style Cabasa.
Old World Tradition
The traditional Cabasa is a shaker originally made from a hollow gourd covered with a beaded net, or strung with small shells. LP’s Afuche/Cabasa is an ingenious hand-held design. It features a loop of steel beads which encircle a textured cylinder to provide a variety of highly articulate sounds used in rhythmic shaker patterns.
New World Technology
Latin Percussion invented the world’s first metal Afuche/Cabasa, which has become an essential instrument for percussionists all around the world in a wide variety of musical genres. The sound, durability and performance of the original design are unmistakably LP, and make it one of the most popular hand percussion instruments ever invented.
Since 1964, Latin Percussion instruments have been put to the test by professional and progressing musicians all around the world. Year after year, LP’s legacy endures, as our talented research and development team continues working with the world’s greatest artists to create world class instruments inspired by musical cultures everywhere.
