BANGKOK — In a bid to guard coral in its waters and assist it flourish, Thailand issued a regulation on Wednesday banning sunscreen containing particular chemical compounds.
Underneath a proposal issued by the Division of Nationwide Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP), sunscreen containing oxybenzone (benzophenone-3, BP-3), octinoxate (ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate), 4-methylbenzylid camphor (4MBC), and butylparaben might be banned.
Research present that these chemical compounds don’t simply bleach coral, but additionally destroy its reproductive system.
As of Wednesday, anyone violating the regulation can face a positive of as much as 100,000 baht.
